Quick note: Itโ€™s great for facility-led holidays, less so if you want walkable towns every day.

Sandaya Campsites We Plan To Visit Next

sandaya etoile d'argens mike drinking a beer at the campsite restaurant

There are a few Sandaya campsites that weโ€™ve been to but havenโ€™t reviewed yet, like Etoile dโ€™Argens, where I, Breanne, worked for a year in 2014, plus Chรขteau des Marais and Maisons-Laffitte, where I worked in 2012, and Lโ€™Escale Saint Gilles, where Mike worked for a year in 2013. Theyโ€™re all sites weโ€™d happily recommend, but weโ€™d love to return as a family, properly experience them as guests, and finally create up-to-date reviews that reflect what itโ€™s like for UK families booking now.

There are also loads of Sandaya sites we havenโ€™t visited at all yet, and these are top of our wish list:

Le Littoral (Vendรฉe)

sand dunes with grass and blue sky at Camping de l'ocean Brem Sur Mer

This is high on my list because it feels like a โ€œclassic French family holidayโ€. The Vendรฉe is one of my favourite regions for family camping, you get long beaches, flat cycle paths, and loads of easy days out without long drives. I want to see how Le Littoral compares to other Vendรฉe favourites, and whether itโ€™s one of those parks where you can do beach days, pool days and kids clubs on repeat and still feel relaxed.

Domaine de la Dragonniรจre (Hรฉrault, near Bรฉziers)

Iโ€™m really drawn to this one because it looks like a proper resort-style Sandaya with big facilities, but in a sunny region where you can mix pool days with day trips and market towns. Itโ€™s also the kind of site families book when they want the โ€œwowโ€ factor, big pools, lots going on, and that warm south of France feel, so itโ€™s exactly the sort of campsite I want to review properly for families choosing between the major brands.

Cรดte de Nacre (Normandy)

This is on the list because Normandy is such an underrated family option from the UK. Itโ€™s easier for travel, great for shorter breaks, and itโ€™s packed with family-friendly days out. Iโ€™d love to review a Sandaya in Normandy for families who want a French camping holiday without committing to a mega drive, plus itโ€™s perfect for people travelling in spring or early summer when the south isnโ€™t the obvious choice.

Domaine du Colombier (Frรฉjus, French Riviera)

This one is the โ€œtreatโ€ pick. I want to visit because whilst Mike and I briefly worked on it in 2014, we want to re-experience the sunshine, palm trees, proper holiday atmosphere, and a setting that feels a bit more special than the standard family park. Itโ€™s the type of site families choose when theyโ€™re happy to pay more for a 5-star feel, and I want to see if it delivers on the things that matter most for families, pools, layout, evening vibe, and whether it still feels family-friendly when itโ€™s busy.

And of course, thatโ€™s just the start. Sandaya has so many sites across France and beyond, and Iโ€™ll keep updating this guide as we visit more, test them properly as a family, and add new reviews. If youโ€™ve got a Sandaya you think we should prioritise next, tell me which one and why,

What makes a Sandaya campsite โ€œthe bestโ€?

Sandaya is one of the leading luxury outdoor hospitality and camping holiday providers in France and Europe. The Sandaya group have a wide range of 4 and 5* campsites across Europe which they both own and manage. As owners of their sites, they maintain a consistent standard across the board, though each campsite does still have its own style and setting.

Family Friendly Features & Facilities You’ll Find On The Best Sandaya campsites

One of the reasons we keep returning to Sandaya sites is because they have some of the most family friendly facilities available. From the incredible play areas to the pedalo lakes, scooter tracks and more, here are some of our favourite features.

Pools & Splash parks

Obviously one of the biggest features for most families and Sandaya do not skimp out when it comes to water fun. Our favourite pool areas have to be those at Grande Dague, Alicourts and La Ranolien. We especially love it when there are dedicated childrens splash parks and every single campsite on my tops list had one.

Lakes

Lac de Leon at Col Vert Campsite

2 of the Sandaya campsites on my list have lakes: Les Alicourts and Le Col Vert. Both of these sites are a great option if you love water sports. Both of the campsites offer pitches right near the lakes and we loved them. At Alicourts we hired pedalos whilst at Le Col vert we just enjoyed some paddling in nature

Skate Parks & Pump tracks

Whilst Les Alicourts had a great skate track, both Le Col Vert and La Ranolien both had these great pump tracks for bikes, skates and scooters. Our daughters looved scooting and riding on them. It’s definitely an extra feature that would encourage me to book, especially on a site where I expect the weather to be good.

Soft Play Areas

On Sandaya sites where we’re expecting worser weather it’s always nice to find a soft/indoor play area. The one above was at Les Alicourts and below we found a small and cosy soft play inside a mobile home at La Ranolien and a larger, semi covered soft play at Grande Dague

Tree Top Climbing

For the bigger children we loved the tree top climbing at L’Oree du Bois and its attached Indian forest leisure area.

Play Areas

We have discovered a wide range of different play areas across the different Sandaya site we have stayed at. Some are ultra modern, whilst others are more srustic and wooden, here are a few of the best ones

Bouncy Castles

Our daughters favourite activity has to be the Koolaya Land bouncy castle. This is standard across the board and I don’t think we’ve ever been to a Sandaya site without one.

Arcades

arcade area at le ranolien campsite

Most of the Sandaya sites we have stayed at have arcades which are perfect to keep children entertained for a while on a rainy day.

Sports Facilities

multisports court at le ranolien

This is the area which Sandaya shines for the older and sporty children. The sport facilities are great and you’ll usually find multi sports courts, table tennis, petanque, Volleyball and quite often body weight and real gyms.

Child Friendly Restaurants and takeaways

Mike and Toddler of Family Camping Europe sat at a restaurant table with yellow menu, green bottles and green chairs at the restaurant of camping resort les alicourts

Whilst we don’t do it often, we love a meal out, especially when our children are easily catered for. Every campsite has child seats available and the restaurants we have used have always been gorgeous, welcoming and provide tasty and nutritious food – especially Les Alicourts.

How to book Sandaya campsites

Sandayaโ€™s own positioning is that it owns and manages its sites, so booking direct is the โ€œnormalโ€ route for Sandaya holidays. However, there are some ways to find better deals via Suncamp and allcamps. Sandaya sites book up fast in peak season, so itโ€™s important to act quickly once you have chosen a resort you like.

Sandaya FAQ

What is Sandaya?

Sandaya is a group of 4 and 5 star campsites across Europe, created in 2010 that operates โ€œtopโ€‘endโ€ sites across Europe. They state that they both own and manage their campsites, which is how they can deliver consistent service and facilities across the group.

Are Sandaya campsites good for families?

Sandaya markets itself heavily as familyโ€‘focused, with most sites offering water parks or leisure pools, entertainment, sports, and childrenโ€™s clubs. Youโ€™ll usually find onโ€‘site services like restaurants, bars, grocery shops and practical services (launderette, sometimes beach shuttles), which can make things easier with children. Many campsites are in beach, forest, lake or countryside settings, including Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, inland lakes and wooded areas.

Which Sandaya is best for toddlers?

For toddlers, look for campsites that clearly list: heated paddling pools or aquatic playgrounds, shallow splash areas, and covered pools for cooler days. Shorter walking distances, quieter pitches and a less โ€œpartyโ€ style evening programme will usually work better with naps and early bedtimes (this can vary by area and season).
Always check the โ€œchildrenโ€™s clubsโ€ age ranges, as many Sandaya Kids Clubs start at around age 5, so younger toddlers may rely more on the pool and play areas.

Which Sandaya has the best pools?

pool at sandaya les alicourts

Le Grand Dague promotes one of the largest water parks in the Dordogne, with lagoon pools, a wild river slide and a themed childrenโ€™s area with a pirateโ€‘ship paddling pool.

Les Alicourts offers a 2,600 mยฒ aquapark with heated indoor and outdoor pools, multiple slides (including ring slides), a childrenโ€™s splash zone, and access to a private lake for swimming and watersports.

Sรฉquoia Parc is also worth comparing, with a large aquatic area plus extensive family facilities like kidsโ€™ clubs, play areas and pedal goโ€‘karts across its 45โ€‘hectare estate.

Do Sandaya campsites get busy in school holidays?

Yes, like most top family campsites in France and neighbouring countries, July and August are peak season and popular Sandaya sites often fill early.

Outside those months youโ€™ll usually find a calmer feel, more space at the pools, and lower prices, although some facilities or entertainment may run a reduced schedule.

Are Sandaya campsites mostly France?

Sandaya has a strong concentration of campsites in France, in regions such as the Atlantic coast, Brittany, Normandy, Pays de la Loire, Aquitaine, Occitanie and more.

The group has also expanded into neighbouring countries, with campsites in Spain (including Costa Brava and Costa de Valencia), Italy (various provinces such as Livorno, Venice and Verona) and Belgium (e.g. the Belgian Ardennes)

Iโ€™ve been a camping fanatic since a young age. Growing up in the New Forest meant regular camping trips with friends and family to a range of different campsites. In my early twenties I worked on a host of family focused campsites in Spain, Italy and France. Now that we're starting our own family, camping has become an even bigger focus in my life.
