This page explains what information we collect when you use familycampingeurope.co.uk, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. We’ve tried to keep it in plain English.
Who we are
Family Camping Europe is run by me, Breanne Lovatt. I’m the “data controller” for the personal information described on this page, which means I decide how it’s used and I’m responsible for looking after it.
For anything to do with your data, email breanne@familycampingeurope.co.uk.
The short version
- You can read the whole site without giving us your name or email.
- We only use analytics cookies if you press “Accept” on our cookie banner.
- We earn commission when you book through our links. The companies we link to track that booking, not us.
- We never sell your data.
What we collect and why
When you email us or use our contact form
We get your name, email address and whatever you write in your message. We use it to reply to you and nothing else. Messages sit in our email inbox and we delete them when we no longer need them. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
When you sign up for our emails or free checklist
We get your email address (and your name if you give it). We use it to send you the checklist, camping tips and deals. We only do this because you asked us to, and every email has an unsubscribe link. Our mailing list is run by MailerLite, who store it on our behalf. When you unsubscribe we stop emailing you straight away.
When you book our holiday planning service
Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We get your name, email and the holiday details you send us so we can plan your trip. We keep the payment record for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting.
When you leave a comment
We get the name, email address and comment you enter, plus your IP address to help stop spam. Your name and comment are shown publicly. Your email is never shown. Ask us any time and we’ll remove your comment.
When you click one of our links to a holiday company or shop
Our links to holiday companies and shops go through short links on our own website (for example familycampingeurope.co.uk/eurocamp-spain). When you click one, our website logs the click with your IP address, browser type and the page you came from. This tells us which pages and links are useful. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site. We only look at this in totals, never to identify anyone.
From there you pass through an affiliate network (Awin, TradeTracker or Tradedoubler) to the company’s website. The network and the company set their own cookies so they can pay us a commission if you book. They tell us that a booking happened and its value, but not your name or any other details about you. It never costs you any more. The networks and companies are responsible for that data under their own privacy policies:
- Awin (Eurocamp, Brittany Ferries, Shorefield, Park Holidays, Decathlon and others): awin.com/gb/privacy
- TradeTracker (Suncamp, Sandaya and others): tradetracker.com/privacy-policy
- Tradedoubler (DFDS): tradedoubler.com/en/privacy-policy
- Amazon: as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon’s privacy notice is at amazon.co.uk/privacy
Analytics (only if you say yes)
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us. It only sets cookies if you press “Accept” on our cookie banner. If you press “No thanks”, no analytics cookies are set. Google may still receive a basic, cookie-free signal that a page was viewed, with no way of recognising you from one visit to the next. Our legal basis is your consent, and you can change your mind any time using the “Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of every page. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Videos
Our YouTube videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, so YouTube doesn’t set cookies until you press play.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting company keeps short-term technical logs (IP address, browser, page requested) to keep the site secure and working. Our website is hosted by Kinsta on Google Cloud.
Full details of every cookie are in our Cookie Policy.
Who we share it with
Only the services named above (MailerLite, Stripe, Google, Kinsta and the affiliate networks), and only what they need to do their job. We never sell or rent your information. We’d only share it with anyone else if the law requires it.
Some of these companies store data outside the UK and EU, mainly in the USA. Where they do, they use legal safeguards such as the UK and EU approved standard contract clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Emails and contact messages: until we no longer need them to help you.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.
- Planning service payment records: as long as tax law requires.
- Comments: until you ask us to remove them or we take the post down.
- Link click logs: up to 2 years.
- Google Analytics data: up to 14 months.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR and GDPR) you can ask us to:
- show you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct it if it’s wrong
- delete it
- stop or limit how we use it
- send it to you or someone else in a common format
- withdraw your consent any time, where we’re relying on it
Just email breanne@familycampingeurope.co.uk. We’ll reply within one month and it’s free. We may ask you to prove who you are first.
If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your data, please talk to us first. You also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator. In the UK that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). In France it’s the CNIL (cnil.fr). In another EU country, it’s your local regulator.
Children
Our site is written for parents. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think your child has sent us their details, email us and we’ll delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
