We love camping in the Dordogne and there are so many options. Our favourite place to stay is of course Saint Avit loisirs and you can read our review of it here. However, it’s not the only campsite in the area. Other great sites include:

Les Grottes de Roffy Campsite situated near Sarlat

A small authentic campsite perfect for relaxing. This campsite is suited to those families looking for the quiet life, away from the hustle and bustle of loud animations and noisy splash parks. This campsite is probably best suited to families with babies or couples without children.

This small and intimate campsite is solely for tent camping. Pitch up your own or hire one of Eurocamps safari tents. Again, this campsite is a fairly quiet, relaxed site. Perfect for families wishing to escape the noise.

Sandaya Péneyrals In Saint-Crépin-et-Carlucet

This campsite is great for families with young children thanks to the extensive toddler splash park. This 5* campsite is located at the heart of the Dordognes luscious green countryside and makes the perfect base for exploring – or not – this campsite is also so substantive that you wouldn’t even need to leave the site.

Saint-Avit-loisirs in Le Bugue

Although we have written a full review here, I feel like I have to summarise Saint Avit loisirs Campsite here for those of you looking for somewhere to stay but haven’t been blown away by the options above. Saint Avit loisirs is a brilliant site for families. Whilst it can get fairly lively in Summer, in the off season it’s a peaceful haven. The splash park is great for toddlers and the slides are great for older children. We definitely recommend this site for families with children aged between 0-12.
